Colonel Smith is retired from the US Army Chaplain Corps after 30 years of active duty service. He holds a BS Business Administration, Masters of Divinity, Doctorate in pastoral care and counseling. He is also a mortuary school graduate. His military education includes Basic and Advanced Chaplain Courses, Combined Arm Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and US Army War College.Reverend Smith was employed with Murray Brothers Funeral Home in Metro-Atlanta, GA. prior to moving to Augusta, GA. Colonel Smith has been licensed as funeral director and embalmer over 30 years. He has a passion to provide quality funeral service to the Augusta and surrounding communities. His number one goal for Smith-Peoples Funeral Home has been to ensure that integrity, honesty, dignity, and professionalism is at the forefront when dealing with families.. Colonel Smith brings to the funeral home profession superb management, leadership and pastoral skills.During Colonel Smith's military service, he serviced in several key positions, Regional Chaplain, US Army Installation Management Agency (Southeast); Command Chaplain, Coalition Forces Land Component Command(Kuwait); Command Chaplain, US Army Central Command/3rd US Army; Division Chaplain,2d Infantry Division(Korea) and Deputy Corps Chaplain, XVII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, NC. In all of these assignments, he has provided quality leadership, pastoral care and counseling to subordinate chaplains, soldiers, Department of Defense personnel and their family members. He was the senior chaplain during the initial Afghanistan and Iraqi operations, supervising over 1000 chaplains and support personnel from the U.S. and coalition forces.
